Getting Started
This article walks you through the basic steps to get started with using Docugate.
Registration
In order to generate documents with Docugate, you need to create your own tenant. You can register your own tenant by going to get.docugate.cloud. Docugate does not store your credentials, but rather uses external authentication providers. Click on the button associated with the credential provider of your choice. You will be redirected to the log-in process of this provider. After a successful authentication, you will be redirected to Docugate again.
Note
Note that currently, you need a Microsoft account in order to create a Docugate tenant.
Having completed the authentication process successfully, you can choose an identifier for your tenant.
This identifier defines the URL you use to get to Docugate's frontend for your tenant.
For example, a tenant with identifier demo
will use Docugate's frontend by navigating to https://demo.docugate.cloud
.
Note
You have to choose an unused and valid tenant identifier, there is no guarantee that your desired identifier can be assigned to you. The frontend will inform you if there was a problem with your desired identifier.
After a successful registration of your tenant identifier, you will be redirected to Docugate's UI for your tenant. The default view lists all available templates in your tenant. A standard set of template is created during the registration of your tenant.
Generating your first document
In the template overview, you can select a template. You are redirected to the creation view that lists different input fields to supply the document with some data.
Note
Some input fields are required to have a value. Without filling in values, the document cannot be generated.
Editing templates
Templates consist of descriptive metadata as well as binary data representing the actual content of a template.
The latter has to be of a type supported by Docugate.
To edit a template, you can either click Edit
in the Options
menu of the template overview or the edit icon next to the template's name in the creation view.
When doing so, you are redirected to the administration view of the respective template.
Editing template metadata
In the administration view of a template, you can do the following things:
- View, create and delete labels
- View and edit the display name and description of the template
- Manage the data input fields used to enrich the template with data upon document generation
- Manage the mapping functions associated with your template
You can find more detailed information about designing and managing templates here.
Editing template content
The administration view does not suffice to edit the binary data for your template.
In order to edit the file behind a template, you have to click the Open in Editor
button in the administration view.
This will prompt Docugate to download the template file, which you can then edit.
In the case of Microsoft Office Word files, we provide an add-in for Word to help you with editing your template content. Read more about the add-in here.
